Stories From Germany — TikTok Creative
“18 years dedicating service to guests. This year I checked myself out.” A short-form video concept built on my own career change: hook, story arc, script, filming plan and edit.

01Project overview
Stories From Germany is a DCI practice brand that collects personal stories from people living in Germany. The assignment: create a TikTok ad that makes viewers want to share their own story.
My partner and I each scripted a personal story using the same structure. Mine is called “Checking Out”: after 18 years in hotels in Lima, New York and Germany, I left hospitality to study digital marketing and AI.
02Business challenge
A call for stories only works if the example feels real. The video had to earn attention in the first three seconds, tell a complete story in under half a minute, and hand over to the viewer at the end — without looking like an advert.
03Target audience
- People living in Germany, especially expats and career changers
- Viewers who respond to honest, talk-to-camera storytelling more than to polished brand content
- Most watch without sound, so the story has to work through text overlays and subtitles
04Campaign objective
Get viewers to share their own story with Stories From Germany, using one career change as the example. Call to action: “That’s my story. What’s yours?”
05Strategy and approach
- Hook in the first three seconds: “18 years dedicating service to guests. This year I checked myself out.”
- A four-part arc: ambition (the hotel career), turning point (every holiday at work, one big question), decision (back to school), call to action.
- One visual anchor: the hotel name badge. It opens the video on my chest and ends lying next to a laptop.
- A format that suits the platform: vertical 9:16, 25–30 seconds, natural light, talking to camera, burned-in subtitles.
- A 15-minute filming plan with one location and three props, so the idea can be produced without a budget.
- Tone: honest, warm, conversational. Small stumbles stay in.
06My individual contribution
- Developed the concept, hook and story arc from my own career change.
- Wrote the shot-by-shot script with voice lines and text overlays, working with one classmate who scripted her own story in the same format.
- Planned the shoot, filmed it on a phone and appeared on camera.
- Edited the final video with subtitles and wrote the caption and hashtags.

What I would measure — no campaign was run
- Hook: share of viewers still watching after three seconds
- 3 s
- Length: share of viewers who watch to the end
- 25–30 s
- Stories shared, comments and profile visits
- 1 CTA
The video was produced as a creative exercise and was not run as a paid ad. These are the measures I would use to judge it, not results.
10Key learnings
- The hook is a promise. The rest of the video has to keep it.
- One object can carry a whole story. The badge next to the laptop says “career change” faster than any sentence.
- A plan makes it easier to sound natural: once the structure was fixed, I could say the lines my own way.
- More than 15 years of reading guests turned out to be good training for reading an audience.
